Welcome to the info.wf Network Information Center
You're connected to the NIC for info.wf. Our goal is simple: give free domains to students, teachers, and researchers.
You can verify your academic affiliation by signing in with a recognized institutional email, or by completing a short form (school name, program/position, expected graduation/employment, etc.). Once verified, you can register and manage your subdomain(s) directly on this site.
Important: A valid contact email (school or secondary) must be publicly listed in WHOIS. This is required for accountability and domain standards compliance.
Disclaimer: .wf is the country-code top-level domain (ccTLD) for Wallis et Futuna, a French overseas collective, managed by AFNIC. This service is NOT affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the territory of Wallis et Futuna, AFNIC, or any official .wf registry operator. We simply purchased the domain info.wf and set it up to provide free subdomains to students, teachers, and researchers as an independent community project.
Why?
Let's be honest: most students don't have money. You're juggling tuition, textbooks, rent, and maybe ramen noodles if you're lucky. A credit card? That's a luxury many don't have or can't get approved for yet.
So you want to build a website, showcase your portfolio, host a project, start a blog, experiment with web development. But then you hit a wall: domain registrars want $10-15/year. Payment required. Credit card required.
Why should the price of a domain stop you?
It shouldn't. If you're learning, building, creating, or just trying to establish your presence online, the cost of a domain shouldn't be a barrier. That's why this exists. No payment. No credit card. Just proof you're a student, and you get your domain. Keep it through graduation and beyond.
Build something. Learn something. Put yourself out there. The web should be accessible to everyone, especially those just starting out.

- Have a

- Use it or lose it: Inactive domains (no DNS records for 12+ months) will be pruned and made available for others.
- Domain resale prohibited: Domains cannot be sold, transferred for profit, or used for domain speculation. However, you may use your domain for profit-making projects, businesses, or services, just don't sell the domain itself.

FAQ
What is the .wf TLD?
.wf is the country-code top-level domain (ccTLD) for Wallis et Futuna, a French overseas collective, managed by AFNIC.
We purchased the domain info.wf within this TLD and set it up to provide free subdomains to students, teachers, and researchers. The "domains" we issue are technically subdomains delegated under our info.wf zone.
Are these really “domains” if they're subdomains?
They're subdomains, but work worldwide exactly the same as .com names. You can create A/AAAA, CNAME, MX and other records for your services.
How do I manage DNS?
After you sign in, you can manage your subdomain records directly from this site. Changes propagate via our authoritative nameservers.
Alternatively, you can set NS records to point your subdomain to external nameservers (self-hosted nameservers, Hurricane Electric, etc.) and manage DNS entirely outside of this platform.
Can I keep my domain after leaving my institution?
Yes, indefinitely. As long as you were verified when you registered, you retain your subdomain for life. Simply ensure you have a secondary email on your account to maintain access after your institutional email expires.
Can I use my domain for commercial purposes or sell it?
You may use your domain for any lawful purpose, including profit-making businesses, services, or projects. However, you cannot sell, transfer, or resell the domain itself. Domain speculation and transfers for profit are strictly prohibited.
What happens to inactive domains?
Domains with no DNS records for 12 consecutive months will be pruned and released. You'll receive 30 days notice before pruning. Simply maintain at least one DNS record to keep your domain active.
How does the domain search work?
Just enter the subdomain part (e.g., "myname"), the .info.wf suffix is automatically added. If you type anything after a dot, it will be stripped. For taken domains, click "View WHOIS" to see registration details.
What are the technical restrictions for domain names?
Allowed characters: Letters (a-z), numbers (0-9), and hyphens (-). Cannot start or end with a hyphen.
Length: Minimum 1 character, maximum 63 characters.
Internationalized Domain Names (IDN): Yes! Unicode characters and emoji domains are supported. They are automatically converted to punycode (e.g., "🚀" becomes "xn--k78h").
How can I look up domain registration info?
Use our WHOIS lookup tool to check registration details for any domain under info.wf. You'll see the creation date and registrant contact information.
Do I have to make my email public in WHOIS?
Yes. Either your school email OR a secondary email must be publicly listed in WHOIS data as a valid point of contact (PoC). This is required for accountability and to comply with domain registration standards.
Important: Domains without a valid, reachable contact email will be deleted without notice. If your school email expires, update to a secondary email before it becomes unreachable.
Any tips for signup?
We recommend using a secondary email for registration so you keep access even if your school address is later deactivated. This email will be publicly visible in WHOIS data.
